More info: This impacted devices that were inactive between Saturday, March 22, 2025, and Wednesday, April 9, 2025. The affected devices weren’t active, but they were appearing as active in the Microsoft Intune admin center.

Final status: Following our processing throughput increase and reprocessing of the affected devices, we’ve internally validated that impact has been remediated.

Scope of impact: Impact was specific to some admins who were served through the affected infrastructure and checking the status of devices in the Microsoft Intune admin center that were inactive between Saturday, March 22, 2025, and Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

End time: Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 3:28 PM UTC

Root cause: An increase in device deactivations had caused a section of Microsoft Intune infrastructure to perform below manageable performance thresholds, causing update requests for the device status in the Microsoft Intune admin center to queue, which gave the impression that the devices were still active, when in fact they weren’t.

Next steps:
– We’re further analyzing the affected subset of lower-than-expected performance levels for the subset of affected Intune service infrastructure to help us isolate the source for the problem, and to help us prevent similar issues in the future.
