User impact: Users’ inbound email messages may be received with attachments in a scan in progress state.

More info: Affected users may see a message within an impacted email message stating that the scan of the attachment is in progress. Users can forward themselves the affected email message to access the intended attachment.

Current status: We’re continuing with our internal tests and validations so we can assure that our solution remediates the impact without introducing any unexpected problems to the service.

Scope of impact: Some users receiving email messages intended to have attachments may be impacted.

Root cause: A recent service update introduced a configuration issue that’s causing an index, which our service utilizes for querying email messages and their associated attachments, to become stale. As the index is stale, the query fails and attachments get stuck in an in-progress state.
