More info: While we’re focused on remediation, users that have access to Outlook on the web or the Outlook mobile apps may use these to bypass the impact.

Current status: The service health telemetry indicates that impact has been remediated for most affected users; however, impact may still be present for a portion of affected users. Additionally, after restarting the system services of the affected infrastructure we’ve noticed that impact is gradually recovering. We’re continuing to monitor telemetry, as well as looking for possible ways to expedite our remediating actions if possible.

Scope of impact: Any user attempting to connect to Exchange Online from the classic Outlook desktop client may be impacted.

Root cause: A portion of infrastructure responsible for facilitating access to Exchange Online mailboxes from the classic Outlook desktop client is operating in a suboptimal state and causing impact.
