Users running affected queries performed within customized or legacy versions of the search user interface (UI) within Microsoft 365 service platforms may receive an error when encountering this problem, although no error will be shown for occurrences of the issue within the modern search UI.

Current Status: We are continuing preparations to safely implement the mitigation across all affected infrastructure and are confident that this mitigation will prevent further occurrence of incomplete search returns. We plan to begin applying the mitigation as early as Monday, May 7, 2023, and will continue working in-tandem to validate our long-term fix for the service within our test environment; however, these actions are resource and time-intensive and expected to require approximately two weeks or longer to fully complete. We are actively monitoring the environment for signs of impact remediation or recurrence during this time and will provide incremental updates as our work progresses.

Scope of impact: While a rare occurrence, any user may experience this issue when performing a search query that encounters an incorrect index entry.
