In our continued efforts to improve the coverage and accuracy of out-of-the-box sensitive information types (SITs), we have added 7 new SITs and updated the definition of 2 existing SITs. 

[When this will happen:]

Rollout will begin in mid-May and is expected to be complete by end of May.

[How this will affect your organization:]

The following new and updated SITs will soon be available to be used in Microsoft Purview compliance solutions including Data Loss Prevention, Auto Labeling, Communication Compliance, and Microsoft Cloud App Security.

New SITs available (see definitions):

  • UAE identity card number
  • UAE passport number
  • South Korea passport number
  • South Korea driver’s license number
  • Malaysia passport number
  • Singapore passport number
  • Singapore driver’s license number

Updates to existing SITs:

SIT name Existing definition Additional patterns we will look for
Japan Bank

Seven or eight digits:

  • four digits bank account branch code
  • a space or dash (optional)
  • three digits

Ten to twelve digits:

  • three digits followed by a space or dash (optional)
  • four digits bank account branch code followed by

    a space or dash (optional)

  • three digits

Washington State Driver’s License number

The number is 12 characters in length:

  • The first five characters are the first five letters of the licensee’s last name, substituted with an asterisk if the name is shorter than five characters.
  • The following two characters are the initials of the first and middle name.
  • The next three characters are digits
  • The last two characters are letters or digits 

ID number with 12 characters with “WDL” then 9 random (no vowels or Q or V):

  • The new pattern starts with “WDL” followed by nine letters and numbers.
  • It will not contain any vowels or the letters Q and V.
  • It will not contain any special characters.
  • The 10th position is always a number.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

No action is needed to enable these changes. Your existing policies (including DLP policies) need not be changed.
