In addition to the new innovations announced at Microsoft Build, there are new Windows 11 features for organizations and the IT teams that support them. Here are a few highlights:
  • Windows 365 Boot will be available in public preview tomorrow, May 24th. This new feature enables Windows 11, version 22H2 users to boot directly into their Cloud PC at first login.
  • New app privacy settings give you the ability to allow or block access to presence sensor information and easily enable and disable presence sensing features like wake on approach or lock on leave.
  • With Bluetooth® Low Energy Audio, Windows 11, version 22H2 offers high-quality audio at low power for calls, videos, and music on compatible devices, including wireless earbuds. (Note: Bluetooth Low Energy Audio is hardware-dependent.)
  • Glanceable VPN enables users to quickly determine whether their VPN is connected by observing if the VPN badge on the networking icon in the System Tray is on or off.
When will this happen:
For IT-managed devices, many of these innovations will begin rolling out with the July 2023 monthly security update for Windows 11, version 22H2, with early testing available through the June 2023 optional non-security preview release.
How this will affect your organization:
In addition to the innovations outlined above, Windows 11 Enterprise supports a set of cloud-based capabilities that you can adopt when you are ready. Here’s an update on what’s available now and coming soon to help you deploy, update, and manage your Windows estate more effectively using Microsoft Intune, Universal Print, and Windows Autopatch.
  • Organizational messages, generally available May 31st, provides IT admins with the ability to deliver messages to employees via native Windows 11 experiences, such as the Notification Center, Get started app, and right above the taskbar. Messages can be branded, personalized, and delivered to targeted groups of employees.
  • Starting May 23rd, Universal Print secure release provides a better way to print private or confidential documents using the Microsoft 365 app for Android.
  • You can now (as part of a preview) delegate Windows 11 feature update rollouts to Windows Autopatch.
  • Driver and firmware update management will be coming soon to Microsoft Intune.
What you need to do to prepare:
Take advantage of the June 2023 optional non-security preview release to internally validate the latest Windows 11 innovations update ahead of the July 11th release.
