User impact: Users may be unable to receive desktop notifications for incoming email from Outlook on the web.

Current status: We’ve conducted further investigation into the root cause of the issue, determining that the problem specifically resulted from a misconfiguration introduced via a recent change to tokens leveraged by the web push notification API to fulfill desktop notification functionality. This change resulted in the omission of the Outlook on the web app ID, which in turn hindered these tokens from being recognized and processed by authenticating infrastructure as expected, subsequently leading to impact. We’ve begun deploying our aforementioned fix to restore desktop notifications in Outlook on the web, and we tentatively estimate that it will fully saturate and resolve the issue for all users by our next scheduled update.

Scope of impact: Any user receiving email through Outlook on the web may be impacted.
