User impact: Users on ‘Litigation Hold’ may be unable to move email messages to the archive folder in Exchange Online.

Current status: We’ve identified that additional testing and validation was needing before deploying the fix to ensure it would successfully remediate impact without adversely impacting other aspects of the service. We’ve completed our extensive validation and have started deploying the fix to the impacted environments. We’ll aim to provide a deployment timeline and an update on the status of the deployment by our next scheduled update.

Scope of impact: Impact may be specific to any user on ‘Litigation Hold’ attempting to move email messages to the archive folder in Exchange Online.

Root cause: ‘Contact Objects’ are being unexpectedly duplicated and causing users to reach their folder limits, preventing email messages from being moved into the archive folder.
