Introducing a set of capabilities in general availability in Microsoft Purview to help you strengthen the data security and support compliance management for Microsoft 365 Copilot. The capabilities include:

Rollout will begin in mid-November and is expected to be complete by late December 2023.

These capabilities are meant to help you strengthen data security and compliance for Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Strengthening data security:

Copilot will honor sensitivity labels and content encrypted by Microsoft Purview Information Protection, including sensitivity label inheritance, citation, and honoring Extract usage rights. Learn more here.

Supporting compliance management:

Capture events for Copilot prompts and responses using Microsoft Purview Audit 

Select and retrieve Copilot interactions when user mailbox is selected as the source for a search query using Microsoft Purview eDiscovery. You can also perform existing reviewing actions and choose to export the review set or put them on hold. 

Manage retention and deletion policies for Copilot prompts and responses using Microsoft Purview Data Lifecycle Management 

Analyze potentially risky communications in Copilot prompts and responses using Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance. 

Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance provides tools to help organizations detect business conduct and regulatory compliance violations (e.g., SEC or FINRA), such as sensitive or confidential information, harassing or threatening language, and sharing of adult content. Built with privacy by design, usernames are pseudonymized by default, role- based access controls are built in, investigators are opted in by an admin, and audit logs are in place to help ensure user-level privacy.
