Microsoft Managed Desktop has been a valuable service for our customers to modernize their device management solutions while reducing the burden on IT teams and delivering expert security. Microsoft is committed to helping customers achieve their objectives, and we are continually developing new managed services such as Windows Autopatch and Microsoft Defender Experts for XDR to provide greater choice and flexibility for our customers.

As a reminder and as part of Microsoft’s continued evolution of managed services, Microsoft Managed Desktop will transition to End-of-Service (EOS) on July 31, 2024. We are committed to working closely with each customer to provide support and guidance to make the transition as smooth as possible. 

[When will this happen:]

Microsoft Managed Desktop will transition to End-of-Service (EOS) on July 31, 2024, as we enter a new growth phase for managed services at Microsoft. 

[How will this affect your organization:]

We will continue to support the Microsoft Managed Desktop service and features as per the current roadmap. We understand that the End-of-Service transition may require some adjustments on your part, and we will provide you with the necessary support and guidance during the transition. At End-of-Service: 

• You will retain control over all configurations in your environment.
• Microsoft Managed Desktop Service Engineers will no longer be available for service requests. We will provide hand-off materials and expert guidance to support this transition.
• The Microsoft Managed Desktop Security Operations Center (SOC) will no longer monitor, respond to, or investigate security detections or security-related service requests. We will share alternative resources for consideration.
• You may need to dedicate resources to self-manage and maintain any remaining features and functionalities. We will provide you with support and guidance to make this transition as smooth as possible.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

Microsoft will reach out to you to assist in a transition path as you complete the Microsoft Managed Desktop journey. Customers should be ready to work with Microsoft to determine the best transition path and alternatives to support their modern device management requirements.
