As mentioned in MC800490, we have recently released new Windows 365 gallery images for Windows 10 and Windows 11, available in the Azure Marketplace and when creating or editing provisioning policies in the Microsoft Intune admin center. To simplify provisioning management and ensure consistent policy settings for Cloud PCs, the new images now include the same optimizations found in the gallery images with pre-installed Microsoft 365 Apps. To achieve these goals of simplification and consistency, we will be removing the current optimized gallery images in mid-August 2024. At that point, these images will no longer be available for new or existing provisioning policies.

[How this affects your organization:]

If you are currently using the “OS Optimizations” gallery images, we recommend transitioning to the new images for provisioning Cloud PCs going forward. Starting mid-August 2024, gallery images will be updated, and all images containing the name “OS Optimizations” will be removed. Any provisioning policy using the existing images will not allow you to provision new Cloud PCs until you update to a supported image. In mid-July, the current optimized images will begin to display a warning status and then transition to unsupported mid-August. Once in the unsupported state, you will not be able to successfully provision Cloud PCs with policies using these images.

For reference, Success and Failure audit events have been enabled in these images for the audit policies below.

Audit Category – Subcategory

  • Account Logon – Other Account Logon Events
  • Account Management – Other Account Management Events
  • Account Management – Security Group Management
  • Account Management – User Account Management
  • Detailed Tracking – PNP Activity
  • DS Access – Directory Service Changes
  • Logon/Logoff – Account Lockout
  • Logon/Logoff – Special Logon
  • Object Access – File Share
  • Object Access – File System
  • Object Access – Other Object Access Events
  • Policy Change – Audit Policy Change
  • Policy Change – Authentication Policy Change
  • Policy Change – Authorization Policy Change
  • Policy Change – MPSSVC Rule-Level Policy Change
  • System – Security System Extension

IMPORTANT: All gallery images come with the same OS optimizations. However, some policies might vary from the “Microsoft 365 Apps” gallery image because different apps need different settings.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

Please update any existing provisioning policies to use the new images to ensure continued successful provisioning. We also recommend reviewing the information provided and notify your IT administrators. Update your user guidance and administrative documentation as necessary.
