If your organization is employing Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 on Azure, we want to help you remain protected while you complete your upgrade projects to the latest version of Windows Server. Beginning Feburary 14, 2023, Extended Security Updates (ESU) are available for Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 environments on Azure. Organizations that need additional time to upgrade and modernize their Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 environments on Azure can obtain an additional year of updates, ending January 9, 2024. ESU for Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 on Azure will be available starting February 14, 2023. This also applies to Azure Stack HCI, Azure Stack Hub, and other Azure products. Please note this ESU is for Azure environments only, and extends only to January 2024. Offerings are available for qualifying Microsoft Volume Licensing programs, and can be purchased in three consecutive 12-month increments.

Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 reached end of service in 2020. We recommend that environments using thse products are updated to the latest version of Windows Server. ESU are available to help organizations remain protected for a limited time, while Windows and Windows Server upgrades are completed.
