User impact: Users may have been unable to use the Modern Translator feature in some Microsoft 365 services and received an error.

More info: Some apps that use this feature include, but weren’t limited to: 
– Microsoft Word
– Microsoft PowerPoint
– Outlook desktop and mobile app.

Users may have seen one of the following error messages while trying to use the Modern Translator feature:

“Sorry, we can’t load this feature. Please make sure you have network and/or Internet Connectivity. Click ‘Retry’ once you’re back online.”

“Feature Error. We couldn’t connect to the catalog server for this feature.”

Final status: Our investigation determined that a portion of Microsoft 365 infrastructure responsible for accessing the Modern Translator feature became unbalanced and stopped processing traffic as expected due to an increase in traffic and requests. As a result, users may have been unable to use Modern Translator. We’ve rebalanced traffic on the affected infrastructure and confirmed by monitoring internal telemetry that service is restored.

Scope of impact: Users trying to use the Modern Translator feature in various Microsoft 365 services or Microsoft Office apps may have been impacted.

Root cause: A portion of Microsoft 365 infrastructure responsible for accessing the Modern Translator feature became unbalanced and stopped processing traffic as expected due to an increase in traffic and requests. As a result, users may have been unable to use Modern Translator.

Next steps: 
– We’re looking into the affected Microsoft 365 infrastructure to gain a better understanding of the issue, understand what caused the spike in traffic, and prevent this from occurring again in the future.
