Starting on June 1, 2023, the App Governance add-on to Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps will be included in the Defender for Cloud Apps licensing model. This includes the Defender for Cloud Apps standalone SKU as well as suites and Microsoft 365 subscription plans that include Defender for Cloud Apps. We apologize for this message not being visible to all impacted organizations.

[When this will happen:]

Your Microsoft 365 subscription is being updated with a new service plan: Microsoft 365 Audit Platform starting the end of May thru mid June. This service plan enables App Governance features.

[How this affects your organization:]

If you are an existing App governance customer, then there will be no action required. The engineering team will auto-enable the configuration so you can continue to use App Governance.

If you are using an App Governance trial, then starting June 1, you will need to “opt-in,” to the experience in order to maintain your instance of App Governance. App Governance trial customers will have until August 31, 2023 to opt-in. To opt-in, navigate to Microsoft 365 Defender > Settings > Cloud apps > App governance > Enable App governance for my organization.

If you are an existing Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps customer, then you will see a new service plan added called, “Microsoft 365 Audit Platform,” in your admin center. Starting June 1, you will be eligible to opt-in to App Governance. To opt-in, navigate to Microsoft 365 Defender > Settings > Cloud apps > App governance > Enable App governance for my organization.
