User impact: Users are unable to access their Exchange Online mailboxes through various connection methods.

More info: Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) and Post Office Protocol (POP) connection protocols are impacted, resulting in login failures including but not limited to the Outlook desktop client.

While we’re focused on remediation, users may be able to use Outlook on the web to access their mailboxes.

Current status: We’ve identified that a portion of Exchange Online infrastructure responsible for mailbox connections isn’t processing requests as expected, potentially as the result of a recent configuration change. We’re reverting the impacted infrastructure’s configuration to an older healthy version to determine whether this resolves the issue as we continue to closely monitor the situation through internal telemetry.

Scope of impact: Users serviced by the affected infrastructure attempting to access their Exchange Online mailboxes may be impacted.
