Universal Print simplifies IT management and enhances security by moving your print infrastructure to the cloud, eliminating print servers, and removing the need to install and update printer drivers on PCs. 

Universal Print secure release with QR code enables organizations to control the cost of print and protect the security and privacy of documents. Android support was made available in June. It will soon be available for iOS.

[When this will happen:]

Secure release using the Microsoft 365 mobile app for iOS will begin rolling out in mid-August 2023 and is expected to be complete by late August 2023.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Organizations incur a cost when people print documents but forget to pick them up. Additionally, the information printed is visible to anyone who is at the printer. This could easily lead to unintended information disclosure. 

With secure release, a printer doesn’t start printing until the person who sent that document is at the printer and ready to collect it. 

To use secure release with Universal Print, you simply need to enable QR code release for that printer and affix the QR code to it. People in the organization can print to that printer from any application, then use the Microsoft 365 mobile app to scan the QR code and select the print jobs they want to release.

To enable this new feature, please consult the Universal Print documentation. If you don’t want to enable it, no action is required.
