Updated September 6, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience. Microsoft Purview Information Protection has historically focused on content-based classification. Large advances in this area have occurred over the past few years, including accuracy improvements for sensitive information types and the addition of new classifiers like Exact Data Match, Entity Match, Credential Scan and Trainable Classifiers. Although customers consider content-based classification to be critical to the detection of sensitive data, especially for regulatory compliance reasons, they also want to extend the ability to classify sensitive information based on contextual attributes.
