We are contacting you because your organization is using Microsoft Teams Phone with phone numbers that are associated with statically assigned emergency locations. We are changing the routing for Microsoft Teams calls made by common area phones to emergency services in the United States. As a result of this change, calls to emergency services made by common area phones will be routed directly to the appropriate Public Safety Access Point (PSAP) instead of first being screened by a national call center to determine the location.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Production): We will begin rolling out late September 2024 and expect to complete by mid-October 2024.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Common area phones devices in scope for this change are identified by the assignment of a TeamsIPPhonePolicy policy where the parameter SignInMode is set to CommonAreaPhoneSignIn. This change will be on by default. No changes will be made to emergency call routing for any other types of clients.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

By October 1, 2024, verify the accuracy of the emergency location associated with the phone number assigned to the common area phones in your organization.

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required. You may want to notify other admins about this change and update any relevant documentation as appropriate.
