User impact: Users may be intermittently unable to leverage some Microsoft 365 features.

More info: Impact appears to be limited to the United States, Canada, and Brazil. The following scenarios are affected, however impact isn’t limited to these features:

– Users may be unable to access their Exchange Online mailboxes through Outlook on the web.
– Admins may be unable to load pages or solution tabs relating to Microsoft Purview or any Microsoft Defender service.
– Admins may be unable to load pages or solution tabs within the Microsoft Purview governance portal.

Current status: Our service health monitoring alerted us to several failures occurring within the portions of infrastructure responsible for facilitating access to Exchange Online mailboxes in Outlook on the web and access to pages and solution tabs for Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender, and the governance portal. Our analysis of the failures determined that an increase in request traffic is causing the portions of infrastructure to operate in a suboptimal state. We’re rebalancing traffic to restore services to expected functionality and we’ll provide a timeline for the remediation as one becomes available.

Scope of impact: Any user hosted in the United States, Canada, or Brazil that are attempting to access their Exchange Online mailbox through Outlook on the web and any admin attempting to load pages and solution tabs related to Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender services, and the governance portal may be impacted.

Root cause: An increase in request traffic is causing the portions of infrastructure responsible for facilitating access to Exchange Online mailboxes in Outlook on the web and access to pages and solution tabs for Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender, and the governance portal to operate in a suboptimal state.
