User impact: Some users may encounter NDR failures when sending or receiving email messages in Exchange Online.

More info: Users may receive a Non-Delivery Report (NDR) containing an error stating “554 5.6.0 Corrupt message content”.

Additionally, users may intermittently receive calendar invite email messages as a plain text message containing winmail.dat attachments.

Users may be able to send affected messages by attempting to resend. This may not be effective for all users.

Current status: We’re continuing our monitoring of the fix deployment. We’ve seen a substantial surge in the fix’s saturation of the environment within the last few hours, as we’re now above 80 percent deployment across all regions, which is much sooner than expected. In addition, our telemetry also shows an increase in service health and reduced error rates, which corresponds to our deployment efforts. We’re closely monitoring error rates to ensure continued recovery and readiness for any necessary mitigation actions.

Scope of impact: Some users serviced by the impacted portion of infrastructure sending or receiving email in Exchange Online may be affected, although impact is limited to a small subset of messages.
