User impact: Users’ inbound attachment scans may be taking longer than expected to complete in Exchange Online.

More info: As some safe attachment scans are getting stuck in a progress state, users’ attachments may not be delivered.

As a workaround, users can forward the email messages containing undelivered attachments to themselves.

Current status: We’ve confirmed a recent configuration change to a feature which is responsible for processing attachment scan retries is causing the impact. We’ve undone this change to mitigate the issue for new email messages containing attachments, and we’re working on addressing the impact to the remaining undelivered attachments.

Scope of impact: Impact is specific to some users who are served through the affected infrastructure.

Root cause: A recent configuration change to a feature which is responsible for processing attachment scan retries is causing the impact.
