User impact: Users’ inbound email messages may be received with attachments in a scan in progress state. More info: Affected users may see a message within an impacted email message stating that the scan of the attachment is in progress. Users can forward themselves the affected email message to access the intended attachment. Current status: We’ve analyzed the logs gathered from our internal reproduction and identified that a recent service update introduced a configuration issue that’s causing an index our service utilizes for querying email messages and their associated attachments to become stale. Since the index is stale, the query fails, and attachments get stuck in an in progress state. We’ve developed and deployed a fix to address the configuration issue, and we’re migrating the affected mailboxes to an alternate portion of service infrastructure to allow for the index to update to the expected value and remediate the impact. Note that we’ve updated the Title and User impact of this event to better align with the user experience. Scope of impact: Some users receiving email messages intended to have attachments may be impacted.
