Enhancements include native integration into Windows, support for Azure Active Directory, and additional capabilities for on-premises AD scenarios, such as password encryption, password history, password backups, emulation mode, and automatic rotation.

Microsoft Managed Desktop customers who opt into Windows LAPS must use the Default account name of “Administrator” and not customized account names. If customers use customized account names, they will encounter service disruptions.

Windows LAPS public preview for both on-premises and cloud scenarios, including Microsoft Managed Desktop, also includes new rich policy management, Windows LAPS account password rotation in Microsoft Intune, dedicated event log, new PowerShell module, and hybrid-joined support.
