Users running affected queries performed within customized or legacy versions of the search user interface (UI) within Microsoft 365 service platforms may receive an error when encountering this problem, although no error will be shown for occurrences of the issue within the modern search UI.<\/p>\n

Current Status: This phase of our incremental application of the fix is ongoing and expected to require the remainder of this week to complete. Once we reach that milestone, we will begin work to further expand the fix to the remainder of the affected environment.<\/p>\n

Scope of impact: While a rare occurrence, any user may experience this issue when performing a search query that encounters an incorrect index entry.<\/p>\n

Root Cause: Impact described in MO545600 was caused by a service change that introduced an encoding mismatch between the crawler and query return service that serves Microsoft 365 service platforms. As a result of this mismatch, the service began writing incorrect entries into the search index that, when encountered, caused partial failures for user search queries and manifested as incomplete search results.<\/p>\n
