For example, selecting the X next to a name in the To\/Cc\/Bcc suggestions list. This behaviour is commonly referred to as \u201cContact Masking\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>  <\/p>\n<p>We are retiring this feature for users. This <b>does not<\/b> impact admin controls for contacts.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><b>[When this will happen]<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>  <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Contact masking will reach end of support on <b>March 31, 2026<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>[How this affects your organization]<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>Who is affected<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All Outlook users (Desktop, Web, Mobile) who previously hid suggested recipients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>[Why we\u2019re making this change]<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This feature has been a recurring source of customer confusion and escalations, because contacts can be accidentally hidden for one user but not others.  <\/p>\n<p>While the impact is felt across Microsoft 365 experiences (not just Outlook). It also isn\u2019t managed as a contact entity setting, which creates transparency and compliance challenges.<\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>[What will change in user experience]<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Previously hidden (masked) suggested recipients may reappear in:&nbsp;\n<ul>\n<li>Addressing (To\/Cc\/Bcc suggestions)<\/li>\n<li>People suggestions<\/li>\n<li>Search<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"user settings\" style=\"width: 400px\" src=\"https:\/\/cxcs.microsoft.net\/static\/public\/messagecenter\/neutral\/ee867159-5c2b-4da7-af14-b8842c5bae65\/99e8eed3123c439cbe87ec0b45c6938cfe9fff2f.png\"><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>No new feature<\/b> will replace contact masking for users.<\/li>\n<li>The retirement resolves inconsistent cross\u2011app behavior, as masking previously applied beyond Outlook even though it was not a suite\u2011level contact setting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>[Is Admin Action Required?]<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>No action is required <\/b>for this retirement.
