[Introduction]<\/strong><\/p>\n

Microsoft Entra passkeys on Windows<\/strong> will soon be Generally Available, enabling phishing\u2011resistant, passwordless sign\u2011in to Microsoft Entra\u2011protected resources from Windows devices.<\/p>\n

The Public Preview of this capability was previously announced in MC1247893<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Users can create device\u2011bound passkeys stored in the Windows Hello container and authenticate using Windows Hello methods (face, fingerprint, or PIN). This expands passwordless authentication support to Windows devices that aren\u2019t Microsoft Entra\u2011joined or registered, helping organizations strengthen security and reduce reliance on passwords across corporate\u2011managed, personal, and shared device scenarios.<\/p>\n

  1. <\/span>General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): We will begin rolling out in late April 2026<\/strong> and expect to complete by mid\u2011June 2026<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

    Who is affected:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Organizations using Microsoft Entra ID with passkeys enabled in the Authentication Methods policy<\/strong> whose users sign in from Windows devices, including:<\/p>\n

    1. <\/span>Corporate\u2011managed PCs<\/li>\n
    2. <\/span>Personal devices<\/li>\n
    3. <\/span>Shared devices<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      What will happen:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      With this General Availability release:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. <\/span>Microsoft Entra passkeys on Windows will no longer require explicit opt\u2011in through Windows Hello AAGUID<\/strong> allow\u2011listing in a passkey (FIDO2) profile<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      2. <\/span>This represents a change from Public Preview behavior, where administrators were required to explicitly allow Windows Hello AAGUIDs in a passkey profile for Microsoft Entra passkeys on Windows to function.<\/li>\n
      3. <\/span>If your passkey profile allows device\u2011bound, non\u2011attested passkeys<\/strong>:<\/li>\n
      4. <\/span>Users scoped to that profile will now be able to register and use Microsoft Entra passkeys on Windows by default without additional administrator configuration.<\/li>\n
      5. <\/span>As a result:<\/li>\n
      6. <\/span>Users in scope of passkey profiles that allow device\u2011bound, non\u2011attested passkeys may begin registering and using passkeys on Windows devices.<\/li>\n

      8. <\/span>Passkeys can be created and used on Windows devices that are not Microsoft Entra\u2011joined or registered, including personal or shared PCs.<\/li>\n

      10. <\/span>Windows Hello for Business<\/strong> remains recommended for managed, Microsoft Entra\u2011joined or registered devices.<\/li>\n
