Users will be able to find,<br \/>  understand, analyze, create, and act on content using natural language, all<br \/>  without leaving their OneDrive experience. <\/p>\n<p>With extended file capabilities in Copilot in OneDrive,<br \/>  users can work across their files without opening each one, manually searching<br \/>  through folders, or stitching together insights on their own. <\/p>\n<p>These capabilities are designed to help users move faster<br \/>  from files to <a>finished<\/a> work while respecting the<br \/>  permissions, policies, and governance controls already in place across<br \/>  Microsoft 365. <\/p>\n<p>Beginning on August 24 2026, these<br \/>  capabilities will roll out to eligible tenants as an opt-out preview. As part<br \/>  of this rollout, Copilot in OneDrive and Copilot in SharePoint will use the<br \/>  same tenant-level preview controls. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>[Rollout schedule:]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Public Preview (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out on late August 2026 and expect to complete by late September 2026.<\/li>\n<li>General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out on late December 2026 and expect to complete by late December 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[Impact on your organization:] <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><b>Who is affected <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>OneDrive Web users with a Microsoft 365<br \/>  Copilot license <\/li>\n<li>Admins managing OneDrive <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What will happen <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot<br \/>  license will automatically see the updated Copilot entry point in OneDrive Web.<br \/>  This includes OneDrive Home, My Files, views such as Shared, People, and<br \/>  Meetings, and supported file preview experiences, including PDFs. <\/li>\n<li>&gt;From these entry points, users can<br \/>  prompt Copilot in natural language to act on their files and folders. Depending<br \/>  on the context, users can ask Copilot to summarize files, answer questions<br \/>  about documents, compare content, analyze spreadsheets, create new content from<br \/>  existing files, or help find relevant information across their Microsoft 365<br \/>  context. <\/li>\n<li>This rollout extends Copilot file<br \/>  experiences across both SharePoint and OneDrive, giving users a more consistent<br \/>  way to work with content wherever their files are stored. <\/li>\n<li>For example, users can ask Copilot to<br \/>  create summaries, FAQs, project overviews, reports, presentations, Office<br \/>  documents, or HTML dashboards based on selected files, folders, or relevant<br \/>  work content. <\/li>\n<li>Copilot in OneDrive works within each<br \/>  user\u2019s existing permissions. Users can only access, summarize, analyze, or act<br \/>  on content they are already authorized to view or edit. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><u>Updated capabilities in Copilot in OneDrive can help<br \/>  users:<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Find the right files faster <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users can ask Copilot to find files related to a project,<br \/>  topic, meeting, person, or recent activity. This reduces the need to remember<br \/>  exact file names, folder locations, or where a piece of work was last shared. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Understand files without opening each one<\/b> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users can summarize documents, presentations, PDFs,<br \/>  images, meeting recordings, and other supported content types so they can<br \/>  quickly understand what a file contains and decide what to do next. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Get answers from file content<\/b> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users can ask questions about their files, such as \u201cWhat<br \/>  are the main action items in this deck?\u201d or \u201cWhat changed between these<br \/>  versions?\u201d Copilot can help extract key information from content users already<br \/>  have access to across supported Microsoft 365 locations, including OneDrive,<br \/>  SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Analyze files and folders<\/b> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users can ask Copilot to analyze supported files,<br \/>  including spreadsheets and collections of documents, to identify trends,<br \/>  compare information, generate insights, or summarize what matters most. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Create new content from existing files<\/b> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users can ask Copilot to create drafts, summaries, FAQs,<br \/>  project overviews, reports, presentations, Office documents, or dynamic HTML<br \/>  dashboards based on selected files, folders, or relevant Microsoft 365 context. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Share with more context<\/b> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users can use Copilot to help share files and folders,<br \/>  check permissions, or update sharing settings, while staying in control of what<br \/>  is shared and with whom. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[Action required \/ Recommendations:]<\/p>\n<p>No action is required to receive this update. Copilot in<br \/>  OneDrive will update automatically for users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot<br \/>  license. <\/p>\n<p>Optional<br \/>  steps to prepare:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inform users about the new Copilot<br \/>  capabilities and confirm they have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.<\/li>\n<li><b>Configuration controls available<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Preview opt-in\/opt-out:<\/b> Admins<br \/>  can use PowerShell cmdlets to opt the entire tenant out of the preview.<br \/>  Find <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/sharepoint\/ai-in-sharepoint-get-started\">  instructions<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/troubleshoot\/sharepoint\/administration\/sharepoint-online-powershell-command-does-not-work-correctly\">  troubleshooting<br \/>  guidelines<\/a>. <\/li>\n<li><b>Important:<\/b> Copilot in OneDrive and Copilot in SharePoint use the same tenant-level<br \/>  preview controls. Organizations that opt out of the preview will disable both<br \/>  Copilot in OneDrive and Copilot in SharePoint. Separate controls for each<br \/>  product are not available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Licensing controls<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Copilot in OneDrive is available to users with a<br \/>  Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Users without the required license will not have<br \/>  access to Copilot in OneDrive capabilities. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Permission and access controls<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Copilot in OneDrive respects existing file and folder<br \/>  permissions. Users can only use Copilot with content they are already<br \/>  authorized to access. Copilot does not grant new access to files, folders,<br \/>  li paries, sites, or other Microsoft 365 content. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Content governance controls<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Existing governance controls, including sensitivity<br \/>  labels, retention policies, sharing controls, and access restrictions, continue<br \/>  to apply. Copilot-generated responses are grounded in content the user has<br \/>  permission to access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>User action and confirmation controls<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For actions that modify content, such as creating,<br \/>  moving, renaming, sharing, or deleting files, Copilot will require user review<br \/>  or confirmation before completing the action.
