[Introduction]<\/strong><\/p>\n

Microsoft Teams town halls and live events will soon support Secure Reliable Transport (SRT)<\/strong>, a secure and resilient video streaming protocol designed to deliver high\u2011quality, low\u2011latency video over the public internet. SRT will be available alongside Real\u2011Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP)<\/strong>, the existing inbound streaming protocol commonly used with external encoders. Adding SRT provides event organizers with improved reliability and flexibility, including support for backup streams with automatic failover, to help ensure smoother delivery for high\u2011visibility broadcast events without increasing setup complexity.<\/p>\n

This message applies to Teams for Windows desktop and Teams for Mac desktop and is associated with Roadmap ID 554931<\/a>.<\/p>\n

  1. <\/span>Targeted Release: Rollout begins in early June 2026<\/strong> and is expected to complete by mid-June 2026<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. <\/span>General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): Rollout begins in late June 2026<\/strong> (previously mid-June) and is expected to complete by mid-September 2026<\/strong> (previously end of August)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. <\/span>Organizers can use SRT as an alternative to RTMP<\/strong> for inbound streaming<\/li>\n
      2. <\/span>Events can be configured with a primary and backup SRT stream<\/strong> with automatic failover<\/li>\n
      3. <\/span>Existing RTMP workflows remain supported and unchanged<\/li>\n
      4. <\/span>The feature is available by default<\/strong>; no admin policy changes are required<\/li>\n
      5. <\/span>No impact to users<\/strong> attending events<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        3. <\/span>Update internal event\u2011production documentation to include SRT as a supported option<\/li>\n
        4. <\/span>Inform event production teams that a backup stream with automatic failover<\/strong> is now available for Teams town halls<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          We\u2019ve introduced an additional policy control for SRT-In in Teams Events. To enable users to access and use SRT-In, IT admins must explicitly allow the \u201cSRT\u201d setting in the AllowedStreamingMediaInput parameter within CsTeamsMeetingPolicy<\/a>.<\/p>\n
