More info: When an on-premises user attempted to change their password when required, either as a result of admin action or organizational risk policy, they may have seen the error ” Something went wrong. Try again in a few minutes. If this does not work, contact your admin and report the following error: 50000.” in the Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) self-service password reset feature.<\/p>\n

Additionally, this issue was specific to organizations or users where the Account options feature “User must change password at next login” was enabled wither manually by an admin or by an organizational policy. Admins may have been able to uncheck this option for the user to immediately remediate impact.<\/p>\n

This effectively prevented the impacted users from accessing all Microsoft 365 services, such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, and others.<\/p>\n

Final status: After further investigating the scope of the issue, we’ve identified that the problem was limited to on-premises users who were required to change their password either as the result of an admin action or organizational policy. We’ve updated the title and user impact accordingly. Our configuration change to disable the offending feature update has completed and we\u2019ve confirmed that the issue is resolved.
Scope of impact: This issue could’ve affected any on premises user attempting to change their password through Azure AD self-service reset, resulting in them being unable to sign into Microsoft 365 services.<\/p>\n
