More info: As a result of the pending directory object changes, some users are unable to receive internal email messages. The problem appears to be a failure of the Forward Sync process.<\/p>\n

Current status: We’ve successfully reproduced impact in our internal testing environment and collected logs from the reproduction session for analysis. Our analysis shows that the Active Directory (AD) object ID Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) is being returned as empty in some instances when running the undo-softdelete cmdlet. When this occurs, the expectation is that a different method would be utilized by the provisioning service to construct the object ID, however this isn\u2019t occurring. Furthermore, we’re seeing that the cmdlet is using different sessions when pulling information, resulting in a mismatch of databases and the request to fail.<\/p>\n

We’re reviewing the underlying code of the cmdlet to better understand why it’s using incorrect sessions resulting in the mismatch of databases as well as why the cmdlet fails to properly construct the object ID to assist our root cause investigation and remediation efforts. <\/p>\n

Scope of impact: This issue affects any admins performing user directory object changes which may sometimes fail to sync between on-premises and Exchange Online.<\/p>\n
