Beginning Feburary 14, 2023, Extended Security Updates (ESU)   are available for Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 environments on Azure. Organizations that need additional time to upgrade and modernize their Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 environments on Azure can obtain an additional year of updates, ending January 9,   2024. For more details on this Windows Server offering, see <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/topic\/kb4522133-procedure-to-continue-receiving-security-updates-after-extended-support-ended-on-january-10-2023-48c59204-fe67-3f42-84fc-c3c3145ff28e\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">  Procedure to continue receiving security updates after extended support ends on January 10, 2023<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div>  <\/div>\n<div><strong>When will this happen:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>  <\/div>\n<div>ESU for Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 on Azure will be available starting February 14, 2023. This also applies to Azure Stack HCI, Azure Stack Hub, and other Azure products. Please note this ESU is for Azure environments only, and extends only to January   2024. Offerings are available for qualifying Microsoft Volume Licensing programs, and can be purchased in three consecutive 12-month increments.<\/div>\n<div>  <\/div>\n<div><strong>How this will affect your organization:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>  <\/div>\n<div>Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 reached end of service in 2020. We recommend that environments using thse products are updated to the latest version of Windows Server. ESU are available to help organizations remain protected for a limited time, while Windows   and Windows Server upgrades are completed.<\/div>\n<div>  <\/div>\n<div><strong>What you need to do to prepare:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>  <\/div>\n<div>It is important to review and study the resources in the Additional information section of this entry for complete details. A number of steps may be important before ESU can be deployed in your environment, including:<\/div>\n<div>  <\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/vlsc\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">  Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center<\/a> and sign in using your company&#8217;s credentials. Find the appropriate Windows Server 2008 R2 Extended Security Year 4 MAK. You must be a VLSC Administrator or VLSC Product Key Viewer.<\/li>\n<li>Complete installation prerequisites, including installation of SHA-2 code signing support update, and install servicing stack updates (SSU) and the ESU licensing preparation packages.<\/li>\n<li>Install the ESU product key using the Windows Software Licensing Management Tool (slmgr) and completing activation
